Katy Tur is a correspondent for MSNBC who has anchored the network’s daytime news coverage since 2017. Her program has aired under the name Katy Tur Reports since 2021, and her work has also appeared across several NBC News programs. She is married to Tony Dokoupil, a former NBC News correspondent who is now the co-host of CBS Mornings.

From their first meeting in a makeup room to building a marriage that has lasted for years, here’s a look at Tur’s relationship with her husband, Tony Dokoupil.

When Did Katy Meet Her Husband? Their Engagement

Tur first met her future hubby, Tony Dokoupil, in the hair and makeup room while they were both working at NBC.

At the time, Dokoupil was a correspondent for the network, and Tur later joked that “he sauntered in to take off his makeup, you know, how all great romances blossom.”

Their connection grew during the “dog days” of the presidential campaign, when he was assigned to cover the race from the voter’s perspective. This meant they often ended up in the same state, which helped their relationship despite her demanding schedule. “There was an open question about whether Tony and I would make it,” Tur admitted to The Hollywood Reporter. “But when he got put on the road, it was a life-saver. It didn’t bother him that I was gone. He understood it completely and never made me feel guilty about it.”

In late January 2017, Dokoupil proposed at their home in New York. Tur had just spent more than a year and a half on the road covering the presidential campaign and election of Donald Trump, so being home made the moment even more meaningful. The couple marked the occasion with food and cocktails.

The news was also shared publicly by Bradd Jaffy, an editor and writer for NBC Nightly News, who posted on X on January 29, “Huge congrats to my buddies @KatyTurNBC and @tonydokoupil on their engagement. Couldn’t be happier for you guys! Mazel!”

Their Wedding in Zion National Park

Tur and Dokoupil married on October 27, 2017, in Utah, choosing to elope at Zion National Park. Their ceremony took place at dusk in the middle of the desert, far from crowds and cell service.

A friend of the couple explained that the location was chosen so “there will be no cell service and no one around them talking about politics. No setup, no altar, just in front of rocks.” Tur herself described it simply as “just us and the earth.”

The pair exchanged vows they had written themselves, with both families giving their blessing. In her memoir Unbelievable: My Front-Row Seat to the Craziest Campaign in American History, Tur revealed that eloping was a family tradition — her parents and all four grandparents had done the same.

A celebration for friends and family was held afterward so their loved ones could join in celebrating the occasion.

Katy Has Two Children

The journalist shares two children with her hubby, Tony — a son, Teddy, born on April 13, 2019, and a daughter, Eloise, born on May 13, 2021.

Tur is also stepmother to Dokoupil’s two older children from his first marriage. His former wife now lives in Israel.

Was There Ever a First Husband for Katy Tur?

Tur has never been married to anyone other than her current spouse, Tony Dokoupil.

Before meeting him, she was in a long-term relationship with former MSNBC political commentator and sportscaster Keith Olbermann. The two dated from 2006 to 2009.

Olbermann has said that during their time together, he was closely involved in her professional life, claiming he edited and at times wrote parts of her news reports and advised her on career decisions. He also said he paid off her student loans and covered the rent for her apartment for a year after their breakup.
