Kash Patel is the first FBI director born to Indian Gujarati immigrant parents. Growing up, Patel spoke openly about the challenges of being raised in an immigrant household and the racism he experienced during his school years.
Along with his public career, people often wonder about his personal life — whether he has a wife or children. Here’s a look at what is known about his family, parents, and ethnic background.
Does Kash Patel Have a Wife?
Patel has never been married and does not have children. He is, however, in a long-term relationship with singer Alexis Wilkins.
The two first crossed paths at a ReAwaken America rally in October 2022, an event tied to far-right Christian nationalist circles. According to reports, their relationship began months later in January 2023, despite their 18-year age difference.
In August 2025, Wilkins filed a defamation lawsuit against former FBI agent Kyle Seraphin. He had referred to her as a “former Mossad agent” and described her relationship with Patel as a “honeypot.” Court documents show she sought at least $5 million in damages.
His Girlfriend, Alexis Wilkins, Is a Country Singer
Alexis Wilkins has been pursuing a career in country music and draws about 12,500 monthly listeners on Spotify. In a 2020 interview with Beyond the Stage Magazine, she said her goal was to make people feel “understood and heard” through her songs. “It’s relatable, it’s country, it’s the truth,” she explained, adding that she leans on the storytelling and instrumentation of traditional country while keeping her own voice in the genre.
Alongside her music, Wilkins also works in politics. She holds a position on Capitol Hill as press secretary for Republican representative Abraham Hamadeh.
As for her family background, Wilkins’ father served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. “It was a big part of his life. It was something that helped him come back to the States, start a family, and go to college,” she once said.
Her parents were Armenian immigrants who escaped genocide, and their story inspired her interest in veterans’ causes. After his service, her father went on to work at Gillette, while her mother pursued a career in aerospace and pharmaceuticals.
Wilkins spent parts of her childhood in Switzerland and England before her family moved to Arkansas. She later settled in Nashville, Tennessee, where she continued her path in country music.
Kash Patel’s Family: Parents and Eight Siblings
Patel was born in New York to immigrant parents of Gujarati ancestry. His father, Pramod Patel, grew up in Uganda but was expelled in 1972 during Idi Amin’s campaign of ethnic persecution. His mother was born in Tanzania, and the couple later married in India before beginning their life abroad.
The Patels first returned to Gujarat, where their ancestral roots stretch back to the village of Bhadran in the Anand district. Chh Gam Patidar Mandal, an organization in Bhadran, has kept a family tree of the Patels for 18 generations. While in India, Pramod applied for asylum in several countries, and their case was eventually accepted in Canada. Not long after, the family moved to the United States.
On Long Island, the Patels began their new life in a crowded household. Kash later recalled that his parents, along with his father’s seven siblings, their spouses, and children, all lived under one roof. He described it as a bustling environment where family came first. Over time, they embraced American traditions, from cheering at New York Islanders hockey games to family trips to Disney World.
By 1988, during the Reagan years, his parents became U.S. citizens and registered to vote as Republicans. Pramod later became a chief financial officer for a global distributor of aircraft bearings, a career that provided stability after years of displacement.
Public records showed that in 2005, his parents bought him a condo in Coral Gables. At the time, Patel was working as a young lawyer in Miami. Bennett Brummer, who served as Miami-Dade’s public defender for more than three decades, remembered him as “a normal, good lawyer; did a good job, never stood out.”
His Ethnicity and Religion
Kash Patel was raised in a Hindu household. His family attended the temple together and kept a shrine room for daily prayers at home.
Life in Garden City, New York, where he grew up, was not always welcoming to families like his. The 1990 census showed about 22,000 residents in the town, with 96 percent identifying as white. By the time Patel entered Garden City High School as a freshman four years later, he was among only a small number of students of color in his class.
When his senior year arrived, Patel chose to leave a message in the yearbook that reflected his experience. He quoted Jewish theologian Abraham Joshua Heschel: “Racism is man’s gravest threat—the maximum of hatred for a minimum reason.”
