Salud Carbajal has been serving California’s 24th congressional district since 2017, and over time, people have gotten pretty familiar with him in the political world. Before Congress, Salud spent eight years in the United States Marine Corps Reserve.
In June 2025, Carbajal grabbed plenty of attention after a heated moment at a House Armed Services Committee hearing. While questioning Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth about his involvement in a Signal group chat that reportedly shared sensitive military info, Carbajal snapped, telling him to “get the hell out” of the Department of Defense.
But once the cameras turn off, life looks very different for Carbajal. Away from the political noise, he enjoys a simple and steady life at home with his family.
Who Is Salud Carbajal’s Wife, Gina?
He has been married to his life partner, Gina, for 38 years now. The two tied the knot on Valentine’s Day back in 1987, and since then, they’ve built a strong and lasting relationship.
Over the years, Salud often shares little glimpses of their life together on social media. He rarely misses a chance to celebrate the big moments, whether it’s their anniversary or special days like Mother’s Day. On their 38th anniversary, he posted a sweet message on Facebook, saying, “38 years ago today, I married my forever Valentine, Gina! ❤️ Happy Valentine’s Day to all celebrating on the Central Coast and especially to my beautiful wife.”
While Salud has made a name for himself in politics, Gina has built her own path in the nonprofit world. According to her LinkedIn profile, she’s spent over three decades helping underserved communities in Santa Barbara. She currently works as Development Director at Special Olympics Southern California.
Gina, who graduated from California State University, has also held key roles at places like United Boys and Girls Clubs, where she served as Executive Director, and Santa Barbara Neighborhood Clinics, where she was Director.
Furthermore, she serves on the board of The Wolf Museum of Exploration & Innovation.
The Couple Has Two Grown Children
Salud and Gina are parents to two grown kids, a daughter named Natasha and a son named Michael.
Michael graduated from Santa Barbara High School back in June 2018. Both of their kids are now adults, each building their own paths.
They currently live together in Santa Barbara, California.
Salud Grew Up In A Hardworking Family
Salud was born in Moroleón, Mexico, in 1964, and later moved to the United States with his family. They first landed in a small copper mining town in Arizona. His father worked in the mines while his mother raised their eight children at home.
After the mine closed, the family made their way to Oxnard, California, where his father took up farm work. During the summers, Salud joined him in the fields. Despite the hardships, he stayed committed to his studies and worked his way through junior high and high school in Oxnard.
