Spencer Cox grew up in the small town of Fairview, Utah, and has served as the state’s 18th governor since 2021. Away from politics, Cox values his role as a husband, father, son, and brother.
When it comes to family roots, Cox is the oldest of eight children born to Eddie and Lesa Cox. His father, who grew up with five brothers on a dairy farm in Fairview, is now the President of CentraCom, a successful telecommunications company.
As for his own family life, Spencer and his wife, Abby, are raising four children together. Their relationship began back in high school, and they have stayed together through every step of life since.

Cox has shared more than twenty years of marriage with his wife, Abby. The two began dating when they were teenagers.
The two first met in high school and went on to graduate together from North Sanpete High School, later attending Snow College and Utah State University.
After finishing high school, Spencer enrolled at Snow College in Ephraim. He then completed a mission to Mexico for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Following his return, Spencer and his high school sweetheart, Abby, eventually married while both were pursuing their studies at Snow.
Abby was born in Mt. Pleasant, Utah, and grew up on a family farm as the fifth of ten children. She earned a degree in Special Education, focusing on both Early Childhood and Severe Disabilities.
Life for the couple remained centered in Fairview, a small town of Salt Lake City, where they lived while Spencer served as lieutenant governor and later governor.
Abby balanced family life with community service, actively taking part in PTA, church youth groups, and programs for the homeless. She has long been committed to supporting children with special needs.
They Have Four Kids
Governor Cox and his wife, Abby, are raising four children together — their sons Gavin, Kaleb, and Adam, along with their daughter, EmmaKate.
The family continues to live in Fairview, where their home life is filled with shared activities. They spend time with horses, enjoy music, and stay active through hiking, running, tennis, and golf.
In November 2018, Spencer and Abby even took on the Snow Canyon Half Marathon.
Spencer Cox’s Parents: Father Eddie and Mother Lesa
Spencer is the oldest of eight children raised by his parents, Eddie and Lesa, on the family farm near the mouth of Fairview Canyon.
Like his son, Spencer, Eddie also graduated from North Sanpete High School in 1969 before earning an associate’s degree from Snow College in 1974.
Soon after, Eddie teamed up with his brother Ron to open Fairview Rupp, a business that sold Rupp snowmobiles and other recreational vehicles. That venture eventually became Cox Automotive and Sports.
He later partnered with his cousin, Branch Cox, to start Skyline Constructions, which is now known as MKJ Constructions.
Although no longer directly involved in those companies, Eddie has always expressed pride in the work established under his efforts.
He later shifted his career to telecommunications, becoming a general manager of CentraCom Interactive while his cousin Branch took on the role of CEO. Together they have worked in that field for more than forty years.
In addition to his business career, Eddie has served on the Utah Transportation Commission and as a trustee at Snow College. He also received the Snow College Distinguished Alumnus award for his contributions and dedication to community work.
“I’ve always tried to teach my kids the need to give back and give to their communities and be involved,” Eddie once said, emphasizing that Spencer’s public service is driven by purpose rather than personal recognition.
The Cox household was a large one, with Spencer growing up alongside seven younger siblings. Among them is his sister Emilee, who is married to her husband Ben, and together they are raising two children.
