Giancarlo Esposito is widely recognized for his intense, authoritative performances on screen, yet those who know him off-camera describe him as modest and approachable. He and his former wife, Joy McManigal—an author and businesswoman—share four grown children together, one of whom is Kale Lyn Esposito.

Born in May 1998 in Red Hook, New York, Kale was raised alongside her three sisters, Ruby, Syrlucia, and Shayne. She’s steadily building a presence in the music world and has released multiple singles and EPs to listeners on Spotify.

Kale Lyn Lands Her First Acting Role on the Series Parish
Alongside developing her music career, Kale Lyn has begun exploring acting, following a path similar to her father’s. She made her screen debut in episode four of Parish, a crime drama influenced by BBC One’s The Driver, which aired on April 22, 2024. Her performance quickly drew notice from viewers.
Her gratitude to supporters was visible on her Instagram story, where she wrote, “Thank u to everyone who sent me unwavering support for my acting debut in episode 4 of Parish last night.”
Giancarlo Esposito portrays Gray Parish, a man of fundamentally good character but with a complicated past who is pulled back into criminal behavior after a devastating personal loss. The role follows Gray as he leaves a life of crime to care for his family, only to return to it after his son’s murder—creating intense moral dilemmas and dangerous consequences.
Reflecting on this role, Giancarlo told NPR.org, “To me, this is the highlight of my career. To be able to be in a position where I can truly be closer to who I am.” He further elaborated, noting, “Having four daughters has taught me so very much.”
His daughter Ruby was also involved with the series behind the scenes.
Her Partner Works in Education
Kale, who is 28 years old, is in a relationship with Chris Lilly (also known as Christopher Lilly). Their only joint appearance on Kale’s Instagram dates back to January 2020, and since then the couple has kept their private life largely out of the spotlight.
Since August 2021, Chris has been the English Department Head at Busche Academy in Chester, New Hampshire. His role includes developing the school’s branding materials and teaching a range of courses.
Between September 2020 and March 2021, Lilly worked as a freelance creative director for MOODzine Magazine in Los Angeles, California. Overlapping that period—from November 2020 to January 2021—he also completed a public relations internship at Alma Backyard Farms in Compton, California.
Earlier, from June to September 2020, he was employed as an administrative assistant at Springfield Commonwealth Academy in Springfield, Massachusetts. His internship history also lists an event marketing internship at Tommy Hilfiger in early 2019.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communication from the USC Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism and completed a minor in Cinematic Arts at the USC School of Cinematic Arts.
