Just weeks ago, Claudia Tarazona shared a beautiful photo of herself with her husband, Colombian Senator Miguel Uribe Turbay, on Instagram. In the caption, Tarazona wrote: “Love: Thank you for being unconditional. Thank you for being my life partner. I love you.”

It was the kind of message that felt calm, secure, and full of gratitude between the two.
Now, that peaceful moment feels a world away.
On June 7, during what was supposed to be a hopeful day on the campaign trail in Bogotá, Miguel was shot and critically wounded at a public rally.
Now, Claudia’s social media holds a desperate plea. In an emotional post on X, she wrote a message filled with both pain and faith:
“I am Maria Claudia Tarazona, Miguel’s wife. Miguel is fighting for his life at this moment. Let us ask God to guide the hands of the doctors who are attending to him. I ask everyone to join together in a prayer chain for Miguel’s life. I place my faith in God.”
Thousands have rallied behind her words, flooding the post with prayers and hope. One reply read,
“United in prayer for Miguel’s life 🙏🏻. May God give him the strength and the doctors the wisdom to make everything go well. Strength and much love to his family.”
His party, the conservative Democratic Center, called the shooting “an unacceptable act of violence.” It all happened in a park in the Fontibón neighborhood of Bogotá—just a regular campaign stop, until it wasn’t.
Following the brutal incident, photos started spreading online, showing Miguel with blood on his face. He had apparently been shot in the head. Right after the attack, Uribe was taken to Engativá Medical Center in western Bogotá, where doctors are still fighting to save him.
Authorities have confirmed that they’ve already arrested someone connected to the shooting.
Miguel comes from one of Colombia’s most recognized families. His grandfather, Julio César Turbay, served as president. His mother, Diana Turbay, was a journalist who was kidnapped by Pablo Escobar’s Medellín cartel and died during a failed rescue mission back in 1991.
