On July 11, 2015, ABC7 meteorologist Cheryl Scott stepped in for Rob Marciano to handle weekend weather on Good Morning America. The GMA crew, including Paula Faris—someone she had worked with before—greeted her warmly.
Her appearance prompted mixed reactions, with some viewers expressing a wish for Marciano’s return. Wearing a light pink dress, Cheryl, then 34, previewed the forecast via an Instagram story, saying, “Monsoon season in full effect. Flash flooding’s going to be a big concern. Wildfires as well continuing.” She also promised pleasant weather for the north and east and hinted at a science experiment planned for the morning.
Despite the attention around her GMA fill-in, she has continued her work as a meteorologist at ABC7.
College Background and Athletic Career
Cheryl is a Paul VI High School alum from Haddonfield, New Jersey, who went on to attend Brown University, where she completed a Bachelor’s Degree in Geological Sciences in 2007. While at Brown, she was a prominent member of the track and field squad and enjoyed considerable success.
In an interview with the Chicago Tribune, Scott said:
I was a quick one. It led to great things and good opportunities, and I was recruited to run track at Brown University out of Paul VI high school.
She also spoke about the team’s accomplishments:
We were competitive and we worked really hard, year-round. To this day, we still hold some records on the all-top-10 record board at Brown University, including the (indoor) 4 x 400 relay, the (outdoor) 4 x 100, and I have a top 10 in the (indoor) long jump.
In 2010, Cheryl added a Meteorology Certification from Mississippi State University to her credentials.
