Amanda Seales on Past Romances, Miscarriage and Marriage

Table of Content Show

Amanda Seales has weathered personal challenges, including a miscarriage, while her love life remains a frequent topic of public curiosity as many wonder who she’s dating.

Best known for her work on the series Insecure (2016–2021) and her 2019 HBO special I Be Knowin, Seales has built a respected career. Yet she has voiced frustration at being sidelined by Black Hollywood, noting she’s been left off guest lists for events such as the NAACP Image Awards and the BET Awards. On Instagram, Amanda has even said she’s contemplated stepping away from the industry because of that perceived neglect.

Amanda Seales’ Ex Has a Background in Audio Engineering

In March 2023, Seales revealed, in Hollywood Unlocked’s Facebook video, that she was once in a relationship with her college sweetheart, Devon Wilson. The pair met at Columbia University when they were both 19 and had a brief romance before drifting apart; they went nearly two decades without steady contact, including a five-year stretch with no communication at all.

While they were apart, Devon shifted into a career as a producer and audio engineer and got married. The two later reconnected and made their reunion public at an event in Beverly Hills on March 26, 2022.

It appears the couple has since split again, and Seales is currently embracing single life. In a segment titled “I Be Knowin,” released on September 15, 2023, she talked about how she navigates breakups, even describing her emotional state in the clip as, “It’s like a happy New Year.”

Looking back on difficult periods — particularly a rough patch in 2020 — Seales says regaining confidence was crucial to moving on, and she’s now focused on what comes next.

Lil Scrappy Says He Once Dated Amanda Seales

Lil Scrappy, best known for his role on Love & Hip Hop, told listeners on The Gauds Show podcast that he had a past romantic connection with comedian Amanda when he revealed he was romantically linked to comedian Amanda. On the episode he also questioned whether his ex-wife Bambi mentioned that relationship during her interview with Seales.

Scrappy, who and Bambi split in the summer of 2023 after having three children together, expressed respect for Seales’ work advocating for women. He did not provide specifics about when their brief relationship took place, leaving the timeline unclear.

She Spoke About a Short Romance with Co-Star Y’lan Noel

In December 2022 on her podcast, Seales candidly discussed a brief romantic fling with her Insecure co-star Y’lan Noel. She described a birthday outing he arranged that included a boat ride during which they came across a pod of dolphins.

The evening didn’t stop there; Noel also took her to see an animated painting and had a carefully planned picnic waiting. Seales gushed that it was the most memorable date she’d ever had. Still, the relationship was short-lived. She recounted a moment when Noel said, “You act like I led you on,” and she fired back that his romantic displays had given her the wrong impression, joking that dolphin sightings shouldn’t be deployed unless he was ready to spark something serious.

Her Miscarriage and Evolving Thoughts on Motherhood

Seales does not have children. In the early 2020s she suffered a miscarriage; before that, she had been uncertain about whether she wanted to become a mother, but the pregnancy made her feel it was time to embrace motherhood. After the loss, however, her emotions shifted once more. She opened up about that experience in a candid interview on Facebook.

Marriage Isn’t a Priority for Her

Seales, at 45, said she doesn’t treat marriage as a personal objective. Speaking on “The Real,” she made clear she would be open to it but doesn’t see it as necessary for a healthy, committed relationship.

“I’m not making marriage a goal,” Amanda told MadameNoire. “If it feels right someday, that’s fine. If not, we might buy a home together and hold a ceremony to celebrate our bond — that can be just as meaningful.”

She went on to say that having the government involved in her partnership doesn’t appeal to her at this stage: “We live in a different time. There was a period when marriage often provided women with economic security. Today there are more choices, and it’s not about one option being inherently superior.”

She currently resides in New York.
