Kelley Mack, best known for playing Addy in season 9 of The Walking Dead, had been in a loving relationship with her boyfriend, Logan, who never left her side as her health began to decline.

She passed away on August 2 at the age of 33 after battling glioma of the central nervous system, a rare and aggressive form of cancer. The news was shared through her Instagram in a lengthy message that read, “It is with indelible sadness that we are announcing the passing of our dear Kelley. Such a bright, fervent light has transitioned to the beyond, where we all eventually must go.”

The statement went on to say she passed peacefully with her mother, Kristen, and aunt, Karen, by her side. “Kelley has already come to many of her loved ones in the form of various butterflies 🦋 ❤️. She will be missed by so many to depths that words cannot express.”

Before her illness, Mack had a growing career in both acting and filmmaking. She was best known for her role on The Walking Dead and had roles in Profile (2018) and Broadcast Signal Intrusion (2021). She also worked behind the scenes, taking on projects as a producer and doing voice work.

Mack studied cinematography at Chapman University’s Dodge College and got her start in commercials for brands like Dr. Pepper, Dairy Queen, Ross, and Chick-fil-A.

However, her health began to decline shortly after she and her beau, Logan, moved into a new apartment together in September 2024.

So, what exactly happened to her—and how did Logan stay by her side through it all?

Kelley Mack’s Boyfriend Was There Through Her Surgery and Recovery

Until her final days, Mack was in a deep relationship with her boyfriend, Logan — the one who stood by her side through every test, scan, and surgery.

In January 2025, Kelley opened up publicly about her diagnosis on an Instagram post. She began with a warm greeting to her followers:

“Hi, friends 👋🏻 Life / health update…”

From there, she walked readers through everything that had unfolded since September, starting with what seemed like simple back pain.

“In September, I moved into a new apartment with my boyfriend, Logan. For a month after that, I had persistent lower back pain and thought I slipped a disc. A few weeks later, I had neuropathic itching in my right quad. And then, the shooting pains in my legs and back began, which resulted in me having to sleep in a recliner for a month because laying down was too painful.”

She went on to share that an emergency MRI on Thanksgiving Eve revealed an abnormal mass in her spinal cord. What followed was a whirlwind.

“Fast forward to now — I have been diagnosed with #diffusemidlineglioma, an extremely rare type of #astrocytoma #cancer. Due to the biopsy surgery on my spinal cord, I have lost the use of my right leg and most of my left leg, so I now get around with a walker and a wheelchair.”

Despite everything, Kelley’s tone remained calm, grounded, and full of gratitude. She credited both her family and Logan for helping her through it all:

“They have been with me every second of this process. It has been a very emotional and challenging time, truly testing my mental fortitude, faith, and physical strength. They are so positive and we have a sense of calm knowing that my healing is taking place and we will overcome. This experience has brought me closer to God, and I am leaning on him and trust his plan for me.”

She also thanked those who had supported her acting career:

“I am so thankful for the support everyone has given me throughout my acting career I love so much, which will also be somewhat paused for a little while as I undergo radiation treatment in Cincinnati, where my family is located. I do have some projects coming out soon, which I will of course share once they are released.”

Her Health Began to Show Good Signs in March

After months of treatment, Kelley shared a small win on March 26.

She posted a video of herself walking up a staircase with help from her boyfriend, and wrote, “Re-Learning to Walk.”

The caption read:

“I’ve been up and down these stairs now 2x in the past few days. It’s a big deal for me 🤓 (Life has also had its ups and downs lately am I right lol) #physicaltherapy #recovery #grateful”

It was the first sign in months that her body was responding — her strength was coming back, and she was slowly learning how to move again.

But just as things seemed to be heading in the right direction, the bad news came.

And through every bit of it, Logan was right there with her.
