Ananda Lewis, the former host of MTV’s Total Request Live, has passed away at 52.
She lost her life after fighting breast cancer for nearly five years. Back in October 2020, Lewis first spoke about her diagnosis through a short video on Instagram. She wrote, “This is tough for me, but if just ONE woman decides to get her mammogram after watching this, what I’m going through will be worth it. 🌸PRACTICE EARLY DETECTION🌸 Share this with a woman you love. These 6 minutes could help save her life.”
Her sister, Lakshmi Emory, later confirmed the news on June 11, sharing on Facebook, “She’s free, and in His heavenly arms. Lord, rest her soul.”
Even while battling cancer, Lewis stayed committed to encouraging early detection. She kept sharing that message right up until her passing.
Ananda was born in Los Angeles in 1973 to Yvonne and Stanley Lewis. Her mother worked for Pacific Bell, while her father was a computer-animation specialist. When Ananda was two, her parents split, and the separation deeply affected her childhood. Still, the support from her mother, grandmother, and sister helped carry her through the toughest times.

Throughout her life, Ananda stayed mostly private when it came to her relationships. Even as she openly shared her cancer battle, she kept her love life away from the public eye.
In recent years, rumors have surfaced that she may have once been married to Harry Smith, the younger brother of Will Smith. But so far, there’s been no official confirmation that Harry was ever her husband.
Harry, born on May 5, 1971, has worked closely with Will on several projects over the years. Today, he runs Smith Global Media, a company involved in film distribution and real estate. In 2017, his company made headlines after signing a distribution deal with Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.

Ananda and Her Partner Harry Had a Son
While Ananda and Harry’s relationship stayed mostly out of the spotlight, the two shared a son together named Langston.
Langston was born in March 2011 and has remained close to both of his parents. When he turned 14, Harry shared a huge post on Instagram to celebrate his son’s birthday.
“Hey Y’all, please join me in wishing my first born son a very HAPPY 14th BIRTHDAY!!! 🎂 I can’t believe it, he’s almost my height and weight 🤯 Langston, it’s been a true honor to watch you learn and grow, and become an absolutely incredible young man and overall human being. I’ve never met anyone with such a pure heart, and desire to help others in need,” he wrote.

Besides Langston, Harry also has a daughter, Sydney, from his previous relationship with Melissa Montoya. Sydney was born on August 18, 1999.
