Robert Carradine has died at the age of 71.
The Cowboys actor passed away on February 23, 2026, after living with bipolar disorder for nearly two decades. His brother, Keith Carradine, confirmed the news. In a statement shared with Deadline, the family described his struggle with mental illness as “valiant” and called him a “beacon of light.” They also said they hope greater awareness around bipolar disorder can come from his story and asked for privacy as they grieve.
Carradine is survived by his children and extended family. He was previously married to Edie Mani, with whom the actor shared one child. He also had two additional children from other relationships.
Here’s what to know about his ex-wife, Edie Mani, and his family life.
Carradine Married Edie Mani in 1990
Robert tied the knot with Edie Mani on January 7, 1990, in what was described as a small, private ceremony. At the time, The Cowboys actor was steadily working in film and television, while Mani largely stayed out of the spotlight.
In the years that followed, the couple appeared together at several public events, though they kept most details of their relationship private.
Their marriage drew significant attention in March 2015 after a car crash in Colorado involving the pair. Both Carradine and Mani were hospitalized with minor injuries when their vehicle collided with a semi-truck. Authorities cited Carradine for careless driving, noting that neither alcohol nor speeding played a role in the accident.
Later that year, the incident resurfaced in court filings reported by TMZ. Mani alleged the crash had been intentional and claimed Carradine meant to harm both of them. The allegation intensified public focus on what had already become a strained relationship.
By late 2015, the couple formally ended their marriage after more than two decades together. They cited irreconcilable differences in their divorce filing.
Because their children were adults at the time, custody and child support were not at issue. Financial matters, however, were addressed in court. According to documents previously obtained by People, Carradine requested spousal support from Mani and asked the court to terminate its ability to award support to her.
Robert Carradine Leaves Behind Three Children
The late actor had three children from different relationships. His daughter, Marika Reed Carradine, was born in 1990 during his marriage to Edie Mani. Unlike many members of the Carradine family, Marika has largely kept her life private.
He also welcomed a daughter, Ever Carradine, with actress Susan Snyder. Ever pursued acting and established herself on television, with roles in Once and Again and Commander in Chief, among other projects.
Carradine was also the father of a son, Ian Alexander Carradine.
He is survived by his children, grandchildren, siblings, and extended relatives.
