Why Did She Get Fired From WKYC?
WKYC announced in September 2024 that Hollie had been fired, ending her 22-year run at the station. The decision came months after she was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence following an accident on Thanksgiving night in November 2023.
Strano had spoken openly about her struggles with depression and anxiety during her time at WKYC. After the 2023 crash, she began sharing her experiences with addiction and recovery. Days after the accident made headlines, she pleaded guilty to one count of operating a vehicle under the influence.
Soon after she was let go, Strano filed a lawsuit against the station. She alleged the company used a social media post as the reason for her termination, but she believed it was discrimination tied to her recovery journey. According to the filing, she was officially dismissed on July 15, 2024.
The lawsuit stated WKYC claimed she violated policy by tagging the soft drink Poppi in a post that read: “Fall in love with taking care of yourself! Coca-Cola you’re out, Poppi you are in!” Strano argued that she never tagged the brand, calling the station’s explanation “merely pretext for discrimination.”
