Lauren Sánchez just married one of the richest men in the world—Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, whose net worth hovers around $220.9 billion. The couple exchanged vows in a glamorous Venice ceremony on June 27, 2025, with A-listers like Kim Kardashian and Katy Perry among the guests. Kim had even joined Lauren’s bachelorette celebration in Paris just weeks before.
While the wedding was packed with stars, it was also a family affair—at least for some. Her half-sister, Elena, was by her side in both Paris and Venice, and all three of her children were present for the big day.
But two very important people were noticeably absent.
Her older brother, Michael Sánchez, revealed that neither he nor their mother received an invitation. Tension between Lauren and Michael has lingered ever since he was accused of leaking her relationship with Bezos to the press. Their mother had tried to arrange a meeting to talk things out, but according to Michael, Lauren hasn’t spoken to her since. Both of Her Parents Are Pilots
Lauren Sánchez was born on December 19, 1969, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, to Ray and Eleanor Sánchez, a couple with a shared passion for flying.
Both of her parents were pilots. Her dad, Ray, worked as a flight instructor and mechanic, while her mom, Eleanor, also flew planes, despite holding down a separate day job. Growing up, Lauren spent a lot of time around airports—but she wasn’t exactly eager to hop into the cockpit herself.
“My dad and my mom were both pilots,” she told ELLE. “They had day jobs, but they would take me to the airport when they would go flying… I just kind of watched the planes go by.” At the time, she never imagined she’d follow in their footsteps.
That all changed when she turned 40.
Lauren finally decided to give flying a shot and asked her dad for help. “He helped me find a flight instructor, and I started taking flying lessons,” she recalled. She credited her father as a major influence, saying, “He encouraged me to chase that passion… A pivotal point for me was when I had to get in the plane by myself. The first time I flew solo, I was like, ‘I can do this on my own.’”
Ray has long been immersed in aviation—beyond just teaching others to fly, he’s been a successful aviation entrepreneur. Based in Albuquerque, he reportedly owned up to 10 planes at one point, along with a charter and flight-training business.
Meanwhile, her mother, Eleanor, is described as a warm, hands-on landlord who continues to manage several small properties back in Albuquerque.
Eleanor Was Also a Mayor and Clerk
Sánchez didn’t just grow up around planes—she grew up watching women work hard in every role they took on.
Her mother, Eleanor, served as an assistant deputy mayor in Los Angeles and also worked as a clerk for the city council.
In her ELLE interview, Lauren described her mom as someone who rarely slowed down. The drive ran deep in the family. Her grandmother, who worked as both a housekeeper and a restaurant manager, left an even stronger impression.
“She was one of the hardest workers I’ve ever seen,” Lauren said. “She let me work there every once in a while. I got my work ethic from her.”
Ray and Eleanor Divorced Early
Lauren’s parents, Eleanor and Ray, went their separate ways when she was just 7 years old. After the split, Lauren and her brothers stayed with their mother, while Ray eventually moved on and started a new family.
He later remarried and had another daughter, Elena—Lauren’s half-sister—who is 13 years younger and has since become one of her closest companions.
Siblings
The former journalist has three siblings: two older brothers, Paul and Michael, and a younger half-sister, Elena. While Paul has stayed mostly out of the spotlight, her bond with him is said to be solid. Michael, on the other hand, has been a more complicated figure in her life.

Lauren Has Fully Embraced Her Mexican American Heritage
She has been open about her pride in being a third-generation Mexican-American. Born in New Mexico and raised in California, she’s made it a point to reconnect with her roots as an adult.
She’s currently learning Spanish—something she wished she had grown up speaking fluently. In past interviews, Lauren has shared that her biggest regret is not picking up the language when she was younger. Her mother and grandmother spoke it regularly at home, but her mom chose not to teach it to her, fearing it might lead to discrimination. Now, not only is Lauren taking lessons, but her children are as well.
Besides her personal efforts, she’s also using her platform to uplift the Latino community. She’s supported causes related to family separation at the U.S.–Mexico border through the nonprofit This Is About Humanity, and she’s an advocate for early childhood education, backing tuition-free preschools through the Bezos Academy.
“It’s important that we use our voices, and demand a seat at the table,” she once said.
