Tom Troupe, the veteran actor known for his long-running work on stage and screen, passed away on July 20, 2025, at the age of 97. His family confirmed the Mission: Impossible star died of natural causes at his home in Beverly Hills, just five days after his birthday.
Born on July 15, 1928, in Kansas City, Missouri, Troupe began acting in local theater before moving to New York in 1948. He studied under the actress and teacher Uta Hagen at the Herbert Berghof Studio after earning a scholarship. Tom later served in the Korean War and also earned a Bronze Star for his service.
In 1957, the actor made his Broadway debut and built a prolific TV and film career from the 1960s through the 1990s. He appeared in classics like Star Trek, Mission: Impossible, The Fugitive, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., The Wild Wild West, and Cheers, often in guest roles.
In 1968, Troupe co-wrote and starred in Sofi, a film adaptation of Nikolai Gogol’s Diary of a Madman.
His final appearance came in the 1991 adventure drama My Own Private Idaho, directed by Gus Van Sant and starring River Phoenix, Keanu Reeves, and others.
He is survived by his son, Christopher Troupe, and other family members.
His Wife, Carole Cook, Had Already Passed Away
Troupe was married to actress Carole Cook from 1964 until her death in 2023. She passed away from heart failure at their home in Beverly Hills on January 11, just three days before her 99th birthday. She was 98.
Carole was best known for her appearances on Lucille Ball’s television sitcoms The Lucy Show and Here’s Lucy. She appeared in some notable films like The Incredible Mr. Limpet, American Gigolo, and Sixteen Candles.
Together, Tom and Carole also shared the stage in several productions, including The Lion in Winter, Fathers Day, and The Gin Game.

Before marrying Cook, Tom Troupe was married to actress Sally Singer. The two tied the knot on June 5, 1955, and later had a son, Christopher. Their marriage ended in divorce in 1962.
Sally Singer, who also passed away in 2012, had a career of her own with credits in Fanny Hill Meets Lady Chatterley, Robert Montgomery Presents, and Have Gun – Will Travel.
Christopher is Troupe’s only child. Through him, Troupe had a granddaughter, Ashley Troupe, from his marriage to Becky Coulter.
His extended family also includes several nieces and nephews.
