Steven’s writing has appeared in major publications, including The New Yorker, The Best American Short Stories, and Harper’s. His skill in capturing real human experiences has made him stand out in the literary world.
Steven’s academic path began with a bachelor’s degree from Wesleyan University, followed by a master’s in creative writing from Hollins College, and later, a doctorate in English Literature from Princeton University. Lately, Steve has shifted away from short stories and is now focusing on novels. “I no longer write short stories, so starting ‘a new piece’ means for me starting a novel, the writing of which I know will take me two or three years,” he talked about his transition.

Although Michale keeps from sharing his personal life on social media, he wished his niece Mae a happy second birthday on Instagram in April 2016. “Happy 2nd birthday to one of the great loves of my life. Xo Mae babe,” he wrote in the caption.

Sadly, Larry passed away on May 9, 2024, in Aptos, California, at the age of 69. Throughout his 38-year career, he was celebrated for his inventive musical compositions and his deep involvement in various musical and academic disciplines.
