Throughout their marriage, Kim and Peter shared a deep bond, supporting each other through life’s toughest moments.

Here’s a closer look at their relationship and the life they built together.

Who Was Kim Woodburn’s Husband, Peter? Married for Over Four Decades

Woodburn’s spouse, Peter, kept a quiet life away from the spotlight. While not much is publicly known about his work, he was once a policeman and had a real passion for motorcycles. In fact, that’s how their story began — Kim first met Peter while he was out riding his bike.

The two quickly grew close and married on August 2, 1979. In one interview, Kim described their marriage. “We’re chalk and cheese, but we just love each other’s company,” she said.

“We’re not spring chickens — we’ve been married since 1979, and we’re getting on a bit, so we’re not swinging from the chandeliers. We live a very quiet life in Nantwich in Cheshire.”

Though their love stayed strong, life didn’t spare them from hardships. Peter suffered a stroke in 2013, which left him with numbness and memory issues.

Kim opened up about that scary moment, recalling how it started while Peter was reading out loud and stumbled over a single word. “He was trying to say Martin Bashir but kept pronouncing it ‘Blasher’,” Kim told the Daily Express. At first, it didn’t seem serious, but the symptoms became clear soon after.

Despite everything, they remained side by side for over 40 years. The couple never had children together, but their conjugal life stayed strong until Kim’s final days.

When She Lost Her Stillborn Baby

Woodburn didn’t have children from either her first marriage or her life with Peter. But behind her strong TV personality was a heartbreaking story she once shared in her autobiography, Unbeaten. She revealed how she gave birth to a stillborn son when she was just 23.

In February 1966, Kim was five months pregnant from a relationship that had already ended. She went into labor while alone in her flat in Liverpool. She described that night as the worst of her life. “My little baby was coming out feet first and I’d never been more frightened or in so much pain in my life,” she wrote.

With no one there to help her, Kim grabbed a washing-up bowl, placed it on the floor, stood over it, and delivered the baby herself. She wrapped him in a tea towel and held him close.

The very next day, Kim went to work as usual at a department store. That night, she returned to her favorite park, carrying a spoon in her hand. There, she adorably placed her baby on the ground, knelt down, and started digging with the spoon.

“As I gouged the earth, tears streamed down my face. I brushed them away with my dirty hands,” she wrote. After digging deep enough, she lowered her baby into the hole, still wrapped in the tea towel, and carefully covered him with soil. “When the job was done, I still couldn’t leave.”

It remained one of the most painful and private moments of Kim’s life.

Her First Husband, Kenneth Davies

Before marrying Peter, Kim was briefly married to Kenneth Davies. They tied the knot in 1971 but separated just four years later, in 1975.
