Moody Blues singer John Lodge died on October 10, 2025, at the age of 82. His family announced the news later that day, describing his passing as “sudden and unexpected.” They said the late artist was surrounded by his loved ones at the time of his death.
In their statement, the family shared that their “darling husband,” father, grandfather, father-in-law, and brother “peacefully slipped away surrounded by his loved ones and the sounds of The Everly Brothers and Buddy Holly.”
His loved ones remembered that his greatest devotion was to his wife, Kirsten, and his family, followed by his love for music and faith. Before closing their message, they added, “We will forever miss his love, smile, kindness, and his absolute and never-ending support. We are heartbroken, but will walk forwards into peace surrounded by the love He had for each of us. As John would always say at the end of the show, thank you for keeping the faith.”
Lodge spent more than half a century as the bass guitarist, co-lead vocalist, and songwriter for The Moody Blues, the band behind Nights in White Satin. He also worked as a record producer and collaborated with artists outside the group.
He was part of The Moody Blues’ best-known albums, including Days of Future Passed (1967) and In Search of the Lost Chord (1968).
Born in Erdington, Birmingham, Lodge attended Birches Green Junior School and Central Grammar School. He later studied engineering at the Birmingham College of Advanced Technology.
He is survived by his wife, Kirsten, their two children, and one grandchild.

Her support meant everything during one of his hardest times. More than three decades before his death, John suddenly lost the strength in his arms and was admitted to the hospital as doctors struggled to find the cause. “I ended up in the hospital,” the musician told Charisma. “They were bringing all these different people to try and find out what was wrong, but they couldn’t find out.”
Worried for him, his family reached out to longtime friend and church leader Gerald Coates, who asked his congregation to pray for John. “That same day was the turning point,” John said. “I started to feel better.”
The experience deeply affected his wife, Kirsten, their daughter Emily, and their son Kristian. “Everyone got strength from it,” John said, looking back on how that moment brought their family even closer.

John and Kirsten Lodge raised two children, Emily and Kristian, who both shared their father’s love for music.
Their daughter, Emily Lodge, born in 1970 in England, became a producer and assistant director known for her work on Brassed Off (1996), Perfect World (2000), and The Morning Fog (2006). She also served as her father’s manager and occasionally worked with him on his solo projects.
Emily inspired The Moody Blues’ track Emily’s Song from the 1971 album Every Good Boy Deserves Favour, which John wrote as a promise to always be there for her.
Emily married Jon Davison, the lead vocalist of the band Yes. The two often performed alongside John, something the artist fondly described as “keeping the music in the family.”
Their son, Kristian, carried the same creative spark. He contributed to some of his father’s later recordings, assisting with arrangements and playing lead guitar during sessions at John’s home studio.
Lodge is also survived by his grandson, John-Henry, who shared a close bond with him and had a passion for football.
