Inside Laura Loomer’s Tumultous Family: From Parents Divorce, To Brothers Mental Health Issues

Laura Loomer is no stranger to stirring up controversy. Recently, in September 2024, she found herself at the center of online debates for a few reasons. First, there was her appearance alongside Donald Trump at a 9/11 memorial, which left many people scratching their heads, especially considering her past remarks that the ‘tragic event was an “inside job’.

She has also come under fire for her racist comments about Vice President Kamala Harris. Loomer took to social media, where she posted an offensive remark about Harris’s Indian heritage, saying the White House would ‘smell like curry’ if she won. She went on with even more problematic statements, implying that if Kamala gets elected White House speeches would be run like a call center and that people would need to fill out customer satisfaction surveys.

This didn’t sit well with many, including fellow Trump supporter Marjorie Taylor Greene, who called her out for her blatant racism. Of course, Loomer didn’t back down and fired back at Greene, accusing her of antisemitism and even airing out personal dirt.

But while all the buzz lately has been about her bold opinions and political ties, there’s another side to Laura that hasn’t been explored as much—her family background. In this article, we’re going to take a closer look at her background, diving into the details of her family.

Her Parents Are Both Involved In The Health Sector

She is the only daughter of Joanna Elizabeth Hill and Dr Jeffrey Brian Loomer. They first met in the 90s after Joanna moved to the U.S. from the UK.

Laura’s father is a renowned rheumatologist.

Laura’s mom Joanna, who was adopted, works as a hospice nurse. On top of her healthcare work, she is also a staunch MAGA supporter, as evident from her FB bio, ‘Hospice Nurse. Mother of three. Dog lover. Dual citizen 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 🇺🇸. ⚽️ fan. MAGA!!’

The fact that her mother juggles such a compassionate job with her bold political stance adds an interesting twist to their dynamic.

Meanwhile, Laura’s father, Dr. Jeffrey, is a highly respected rheumatologist. Not only that, he’s even an author and has won multiple national and international book awards. Additionally, he has been featured on Doctor Radio on Sirius XM and has appeared in medical segments on TV in Miami.

It’s kind of wild when you think about how a man with such a refined, intellectual background has a daughter as controversial and outspoken as Laura. But, as Laura herself once said, she comes from a “dysfunctional family,” and looking at the different dynamics within her family, you can start to see what she meant.

As of now, her folks are divorced.

There’s a Rumor That She Was Admitted In a Psych Ward Twice By Her Dad

Rumors have been swirling about Laura’s inability to legally possess a firearm in Florida, and she’s even addressed this herself. Laura shared a document on social media showing that she is still prohibited from owning a firearm.

While the exact reasons behind the ban aren’t entirely clear, things took a wild turn when a Twitter user claimed, “Laura Loomer cannot own a firearm. Why? She has been TWICE COMMITTED to a psych ward by her own father, Jeff. Don’t let her lie about the whys.”

Now, Laura’s relationship with her father has always been described as complicated. While there’s no official verification of whether her dad actually had her committed, if true, it would certainly bring more insight into why their relationship seems so fractured.

She And Her Siblings Had a Troubled Childhood Which Follows Them To This Day

Laura has two younger brothers, Matthew, 28 and Jeremy, 31. Their upbringing wasn’t exactly the picture of stability. With her parents preoccupied, dealing with one of her brothers’ battles with schizophrenia and paranoia, Laura and her other younger brother found themselves shipped off to the Orme School.

Reflecting on her childhood, Laura has said, “I’m completely self-made. I’m from a divorced, dysfunctional family wrecked by mental illness.”

Her brother Matthew, who is currently studying Psychology at Arizona State University, shares a strong set of political views just like his sis. He is a big fan of Tucker Carlson, and Elon Musk, and buys into conspiracy theories about Big Pharma. What’s more, he operates a merchandise business on Amazon Marketplace, where he sells t-shirts mocking President Joe Biden and featuring Tucker.

Then there’s her other brother, Jeremy, who’s had his fair share of struggles. He and their father have an estranged relationship. He once revealed on Facebook that when he called his old man after nearly losing his life in an accident, his dad coldly told him he couldn’t be involved and hung up the phone. Not only that, but he’s also faced some personal issues, including a DUI charge back in 2018. Jeremy currently operates Slangsta, a clothing brand.
