Chuck Negron, best known as the unmistakable lead voice behind the rock group Three Dog Night, died on February 2, 2026, at his home in Studio City, California. He was 83.
According to a statement released by his representative, Negron passed away following ongoing health complications related to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and heart failure. His publicist, Zach Farnum, later confirmed that Negron was with family at the time of his death.
Rising to prominence in the late 1960s and early 1970s, Three Dog Night became one of the most commercially successful bands of the era, placing more than a dozen songs in the Billboard Top 40. The group’s catalog included enduring hits such as Joy to the World (Jeremiah Was a Bullfrog), One, An Old Fashioned Love Song, and The Show Must Go On.
Negron formed the band alongside Danny Hutton and Cory Wells, later expanding into a larger lineup that included guitarist Michael Allsup and musicians Jimmy Greenspoon, Joe Schermie, and Floyd Sneed.
After stepping away from the group, Negron confronted years of substance abuse and later rebuilt his life, launching a solo career in the 1990s. Between 1995 and 2017, the artist released seven solo albums and became outspoken about addiction recovery. In 1999, Negron co-authored the memoir Three Dog Nightmare, documenting both his rise in music and his path to sobriety.
He is survived by his wife, Ami Albea Negron, his six children, and several grandchildren.

Negron married his fourth wife, Ami Albea, on May 9, 2020. The ceremony was intentionally small due to COVID-19 restrictions and took place at their home, with Negron and Albea exchanging vows on the balcony while a minister stood below on the street. Negron’s two youngest daughters were present for the moment.
The couple had been together for several years before marrying. Negron proposed to Albea in August 2019 during his sixth run on the Happy Together Tour. They met roughly eight years before their engagement and stayed married until Negron’s death.
Albea, who also served as his manager, had remained a constant presence in both his personal and professional life.
His Three Other Wives
Chuck Negron was married four times over the course of his life, with three marriages preceding his union with Ami Albea.
His first marriage was to Paula Louise Ann Goetten. The couple wed in 1970 and divorced three years later, in 1973.
Negron married again in 1976, this time to Julia Densmore, who had previously been married to The Doors drummer John Densmore. Their marriage lasted more than a decade before ending in divorce in 1988.
His third marriage began in 1993 with Robin Silna. That relationship ended in divorce in 2001.

Chuck was a father of six and a grandfather to nine grandchildren, with his children born across several relationships throughout his life.
From his first marriage to Paula Louise Ann Goetten, Negron welcomed a daughter, Shaunti Negron-Levick. His second marriage to Julia Densmore resulted in a son, Charles Negron III, who is often known as “Chuckie.”
Negron later had a daughter, Charlotte Rose Negron, with his third wife, Robin Silna. He also shared a daughter, Annabelle Negron, with actress Kate Vernon.
Music remained a connection between Negron and his children. He collaborated with his daughters on the album Negron Generations, which featured Charlie and Annabelle. His son Chuckie also appeared alongside him on a 2006 episode of Intervention.
Altogether, Negron was the grandfather of nine grandchildren at the time of his death.
