While the number 13 is unlucky for most, it’s different for Kentucky Governor, Andy Beshear and his wife, Britainy. Their movie-like love story started when they first met in Washington, D.C., where Andy worked in an international law firm.
In their early days, Andy and Britainy were simply two young people in love, unaware of the incredible journey that awaited them. Reflecting on those early moments from 2005, Andy shared a throwback photo on Facebook for Valentine’s Day in 2021, captioning it with humor: “Happy Valentine’s Day to Britainy, who has stuck with me despite this ‘blue steel’ look from 16 years ago!”
The so-called “unlucky number” holds a special meaning for the couple since they got engaged on May 13th. The lovebirds finally exchanged their vows on April 1, 2006, in Los Angeles. Marking their thirteenth wedding anniversary in 2019, Andy shared an adorable photo on Facebook dedicated to Britainy. Writing alongside the photo, Andy explained why “13” is such a special number for them. He wrote,
Britainy and I got engaged on May 13th, and today is our 13th wedding anniversary. There’s definitely no such thing as unlucky 13 with her in my life.
After almost two decades together, Andy and his wife have enjoyed plenty of ups and downs, but they’ve always managed to find their way back to each other. On their 2021 wedding anniversary, Britainy celebrated with a playful touch.
She posted a video of their Q&A session, captioning it with a cheeky nod to their April Fool’s Day anniversary: “15 years of marriage and still going strong! Happy anniversary, Andy Beshear. Loving every moment of this life with you!”
They are the perfect example of a couple who openly support each other and share a commitment to doing what’s right, both for their family and the state of Kentucky. It’s clear in their community involvement as well as they regularly attend Beargrass Christian Church, a Disciples of Christ congregation, where both of them serve as deacons.
California-born Britainy, 47, often praises him as a great dad to their two kids, son, Will and Lila, ages 17 and 16 respectively. On Father’s Day of 2023, she shared that sentiment on her Instagram. “Happy Father’s Day, Andy Beshear! Thank you for being such an amazing dad to Will and Lila. We love you.”
Britainy, daughter of Robin and author Allan Harris Colman, fills her home with warmth and happiness. Actively involved in her children’s upbringing, she even volunteers at their school. Her strong bond with her kids is evident in the way she shares their life together. In her debut Facebook post, she highlighted how her children contributed to a family photo and took the opportunity to express her pride in her husband.
Britainy and her kids actively support local food banks such as Dare to Care and God’s Pantry. Additionally, she contributes to families and domestic violence survivors through initiatives like the Hope Gallery and Coverings for Kids.
Recently, on July 30, she highlighted on Facebook the importance of inspiring young girls, stressing how vital it is for them to realize they can use their voices and talents to make a difference. She wrote,
As a mom, it’s important to me that we lift up and support young girls as leaders – and make sure they know that everyone has the power to use their voice and talents to make a difference.
Outside the classroom, she consistently supports her son by attending his tournaments to cheer him on. Recently, she celebrated his victory in the tournament championship with a heartfelt congratulatory post on Instagram.
